Taylor's bear hunt Aug. 2009

It's that time again.......HUNTING SEASON. YAY! Can you hear my enthusiasm?! Well, despite my sarcastic remark, I really am excited. I just wish I could actually go hunting WITH Taylor every now and then. He went bear hunting this last week and yes, he came home with one. We cleaned out our deep freezer a couple weeks ago in preparation for some game meat to move in. So far all we have are 2 bear heads, but I look forward to some "edible" meat. Here is a pic of Taylor's bear.

Wow! That is so crazy!! I never heard of anyone hunting for a bear. But I guess as long as Taylor isn't hunted, it is all good!! Do you hunt??

Stef, I do hunt! I got a bear last year and it is hanging in my garage. It was one of the most amazing things I have ever done but I don't think I will be doing it again anytime soon. SCARY!

Taylor- Do you ever feel sad about hunting? I am just wondering. I have been around it all my life, I love to eat elk. But, I kind of still feel sad when Wade brings home dead animals. You can say no.
Stephanie-
I have a deer hide in my freezer right now. It totally weirds me out every time I get Weston a Popsicle. My husband wishes he could go hiking/hunting more. But I pitch a fit when he wants to leave too much, so I hope Taylor knows he is lucky to have that.

Chari,

I have never felt bad or a hint of guilt for shhoting/killing an animal. Hunting is a way of life and not a hobby in my opinion. I dont expect everyone to understand that, but rather people repsect it, as I would respect their way of life.

Look at it this way, specifically, with bears and mountain lions, do you feel bad that a mature bear can kill 70 deer a year, or that a mtn lion was just found in AZ that had killed 65 bighorn sheep, which their herd numbers are suffering without hunting pressure. In order to prolong wildlife, they have to be controlled and managed. The only way this can be done is through hunters (which donate and spend more money to game conservation than anyother demographic).

I am grateful for Stephanie's support in my hunting adventures. Now that my sons and daughter are getting older, hunting is now something they participate in. I will admit, for many years it was a "Taylor" thing, but now its for the fam. Obviously, Steph still stays behind because of the two younger kids, but she wants to go and knows there will be a time for her to join me when the kids get older. I don't think I could have picked a better/more supportive wife than Steph.
